Belmont Park is a historic amusement park that was established in 1925 by John Speckles It was originally names the Mission Beach Amusement Center but soon changed into Belmont Park. The Giant Dipper was refinished in 1990 and still remains the main attraction. In addition to various rides and arcade games is The Plunge. For those weary of jumping in the ocean, The Plunge is a public pool offering beach side indoor swimming at a comfortable 84 degrees Fahrenheit

Don't forget to stop by Hamel's Surf Shop across the street from the Giant Dipper Roller Coaster to rent your afternoon beach toys. Bicycles, surf boards, boogie boards and other water toys are available for a rental fee with easy beach access. Explore Mission Beach on a tandem bicycle, grab some beach gear or rent some roller blades for the afternoon.

There's definitely not a shortage of San Diegan stereotypes to be seen with surfers, boogie boarders, body surfers and bikini clad sunbathers flocking Mission Beach. Whether you prefer to be in the water, or walking the Boardwalk enjoying the variety of shops and eateries, there is bound to be something to suite your taste.
