Lesser Farms and Orchard is located at 12651 Island Lake Road a few miles west of Dexter. Keep going just a mile or so after the pavement ends. This family farm is loaded with charm and happy people. You can hear roosters crowing and see the farm cats taking it easy or looking for some attention.
On a recent Saturday morning, a steady stream of customers visits the side door where they find just picked apples and apple cider. The cider is fresh pressed from the variety of apples that grow on the farm. The selection of fresh apples for sale depends on which varieties are ripe. Call ahead of you are looking for a specific variety.
Pumpkins are ripe now, too. You can choose one or several for your Halloween decorations. You can also pick up smaller pumpkins which are the best for making pies and purees. The prices range from $1 for pie pumpkins up to $5 for large pumpkins.
While you are there, check out the shelves for honey, jams, and jellies. There is also a selection of made-on-the-farm soaps. Great for your own use or for gift giving. Ask about the availability of farm fresh eggs.
Lesser Farms is also a good source of firewood. Bring some home for your fireplace or outdoor fire pit.
Lesser Farms is open Monday through Saturday from 9 am until 6 pm, and on Sunday from 1 pm until 5 pm. Because they are a working farm, the market is only selling produce until frost. They are generally open from the first of August through the end of November. To be sure, give them a call. The phone number is 734 426 8009.
