Family dog euthanized after killing neighbor's chicken

Hays County, TX - Angel, a Yellow Labrador mix rescued six years ago by the Pate family, was euthanized by Hays County officials last night after she and another dog killed a neighbor's chickens last week.

Though hundreds of people were rallying for Angel to be saved from death, officials proceeded in accordance with a law which dictates that any animal which kills livestock shall be humanely euthanized.

The Hays County Sheriff's Office was so inundated with postings on their Facebook page about this situation, that they pulled the page down entirely yesterday evening.

According to MyFoxAustin, the Page family had offered to replace the deceased chickens and had pleaded with authorities to spare their companion.

Contrary to that report was information included in an official press release from the Hays County Sheriff's Office:

The owner of the yellow mix, Scott Pate said that he understood what needed to be done and released the dog to the officers so that the dog could be humanely euthanized after the incident. Mr Pate revealed to the Animal Control Officer that he was relieved that the animal would be taken because of a previous case in which the yellow mix had attacked their pet dachshund.

Though the Sheriff's Department is villified in this matter, the sad truth is that Angel was ultimately let down by her owners.

Only a dog running loose is capable of entering another person's property to kill livestock.

Rest in Peace Angel.

Rest in Peace to the other dog who was also euthanized - name unknown.
