According to an April 3, 2014 ESPN report, Venus Williams had to dig deep to earn a date with Eugenie Bouchard in the third round of the Family Circle Cup 2014, which will be streaming live on ESPN3 and has a TV scheduled start time of 1 p.m. EST (12 p.m. CST) on ESPN2.
Billie Jean King Stadium Court at the Family Circle Tennis Center in Charleston, S.C., will be the site for this terrific clay-court showdown between the 11th seeded American and the No.6 Canadian.
It’s going to be interesting to see how the seven-time Grand Slam champion bounces back from a grueling match against Chanelle Scheepers that lasted almost 2 hours. After coming away with a 7-5, 7-5 victory, Williams spoke about her recent struggles with Sjogren's syndrome.
“I’m still dealing with the bug, but my goal is just to hang in there until it hopefully goes away and then I can just continue to play my way into the tournament and play stronger,” she said. “But it’s definitely a challenge.”
According to tennis oddsmakers, Venus Williams will have to defy the odds in order to advance to the next round of the Family Circle Cup 2014. Moments before the start of the match, Williams is listed as a +140 underdog against Eugenie Bouchard [-160], while the OVER/UNDER is set at a combined total of 21½ games.
This will only be the second time Venus and Bouchard have crossed paths in their careers. The 33-year-old American comes in with a 1-0 lead over the 20-year-old Canadian, with their only meeting coming last year in Tokyo, Japan. After losing a second-set tiebreak, Venus closed things out by a final score of 6-3, 6-7, 6-3.
