Smithfield Township, PA - On January 27, a family cat named Mofu, from the Lake Vahala neighborhood near East Stroudsburg, escaped from his home. His owners were unable to find the 6-month-old black Maine Coon cat, but the following day he was found outside the home.
He expressed extreme pain when someone attempted to pick him up and was limping, so he was brought to Creature Comforts Veterinary Service near Saylorsburg. X-rays showed both his rear legs and pelvis were broken from blunt-force trauma, not consistent with being hit by a car.
It seems more likely that someone kicked him hard from behind. His guardians were told that Mofu will likely walk with a limp from now on.
Pennsylvania SPCA Humane Officer, Elizabeth Anderson, was called in to investigate when she discovered that five other mysterious incidences happened in this same neighborhood within the last few months, where cats were injured, died, or disappeared.
They are trying to determine whether this is an isolated incident or connected to these previous occurences.
A $1,000 reward is being offered by the family and the PSPCA for any information leading to an arrest in this case. Anyone with information is asked to call the Monroe County humane officer at 1 (866) 601-7722.
Please share so that this abuser can be found and punished for this cruelty to animals.
