After 18 months as interim President & CEO of Family & Children’s Association, the non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and strengthening Long Islanders in need, Philip Mickulas has accepted this position full-time effective July 18, 2011.
Mr. Mickulas, who has been Chief Operating Officer since 2000, stepped into the interim role following the untimely passing of Jim Harnett in January 2010.
The Board of Trustees unanimously approved this transition and was supportive of Mr. Mickulas’ filling the top spot in the agency. According to Board Chair Patricia Pryor-Bonica, “The Board of Trustees commends Phil Mickulas for his tireless efforts to Family & Children’s Association and those we serve, his commitment to FCA's mission and his selflessness.” The Chief Operating Officer position will not be filled immediately; a reorganization of the current executive team is underway to address this open position.
Prior to his role as COO, Mr. Mickulas was the Executive Director of the West Nassau Mental Health Center, which subsequently merged with Children’s House, and then, in 1998, with the Family Service Association of Nassau County to form the current Family and Children’s Association. Earlier in his career, he spent 18 years with the NYS Division of Parole – filling roles with increasing managerial responsibility. Mr. Mickulas earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Manhattan College and a Masters of Social Work from Fordham University.
