Durango Mountain Resort is hosting the second annual Mutt ‘n Strut Family 5K and Fun Run on Saturday, June 14. Dog lovers are invited to bring their friendly four-legged companions to Durango Mountain Resort to participate in the 5K and Fun Run, which benefits La Plata County Humane Society.

The 5K and Fun Run starts at 10 a.m., followed by a certified dog training demonstration at 11 a.m., and several pet contests with prizes will be held including best costume and best trick.

The La Plata County Humane Society will also host a booth to provide information on their services and encourage people to adopt. Several adoptable dogs will be hanging out by the booth to help draw attention and further the cause.

Participants receive a doggie bandana with the $15 registration fee for the 5K/Fun Run and are encouraged to stay for all the festivities.

Proceeds benefit La Plata County Humane Society, which is an open-admission animal shelter serving La Plata and surrounding counties, handling more than 3,000 animals every year. The shelter, which has been around for more than 40 years, offers low-cost spay and neuter surgeries for the public, as well as vaccinations and microchipping. LPCHS is funded through grants, the LPCHS Thrift Store and donations from the public.

To help out the LPCHS, register online for the Mutt ‘n Strut at http://www.getevent.com/races/event/46279.

Special packages are available with 20 percent off lodging and activities at the resort. For $52 per person, per night, a family of four can stay for two nights and enjoy four Total Adventure Tickets, which include all the popular activities at the resort. To book this offer, call 800-525-0892 and mention the Rocky Mountain Getaway or book online at http://www.durangomountainresort.com/lodging/summer-packages/.

Durango Mountain Resort is featuring a new Total Adventure Ticket this summer, which includes any five activities for $49, including Purgatory Plunge Zipline, Alpine Slide, Bungee Trampoline, Miniature Golf, Climbing Walls, Water Runners, Sky Hike Adventure Family Ropes Course, Mechanical Bull, Bounce House Scenic Chairlift, Durango Mining Co. Treasure Panning, and Mountain Bike Uplift.
