Famed daredevil, Dean Potter tackled an awe inspiring event, as he walked along a tightrope without any safety equipment, just as the huge moon was rising in the horizon. It is a breathtaking sight, and an amazing image that will not soon be forgotten. The article did not state when he achieved this great fete, but it does say he is at the California’s Cathedral Park, and the scenery is unbelievable. His courage, though a little crazy, is inspiring. In the video, you see the huge moon rising to just the perfect height in the horizon, and then you see Potter step out onto the tight rope, balancing his way across the two mountaintops. Once he reaches the other side, he then turns around and seems much more comfortable on his way back, walking steadily across the rope with the bright, beautiful full moon as his background. It was absolutely incredible.
This is not the first stunt that Potter has become famous for, however. He seems to feel invincible as he carries out his many stunts that leave people in complete awe. He loves to base jump, highline, and is a notorious alpinist. He has highlined, without any safety gear, across the Enshi Grand Canyon in China, and holds the word’s record for the longest wing suit BASE flight, a title he earned after free climbing The Eiger in Switzerland, jumping off a cliff, and then gliding for 2 minutes and fifty seconds to the earth.
The video is unbelievable, and definitely something you must see. It is part of a larger National Geographic Documentary on Potter, called “The Man Who Can Fly”. It is inspiring to see someone who is so free, so fearless, and not afraid to conquer his fears. Though some people believe that stunt men are crazy and must have a death wish, many believe that these men are here to inspire us in a new and different way. They show us that anything is possible if we set our minds to it, and that our dreams are indeed in reach if we only believe and trust in ourselves.
Please watch the video that I have provided, and I hope you feel as inspired as I did when I watched it. It is a moment of awe, and those moments are what life is all about. It is the small things that make this world a better place, and appreciating the beauty and those amazing moments are a special part of living for me. The moon, sunrises, sunsets, the waves of the ocean, the smell of fresh rain, and the beauty of a rainbow after the storm. It all seems to have a special meaning. We may live in a world of violence, hate, and fear, but it is these small moments that remind us that the earth is still an amazing planet that has so much to offer. Thank you Dean Potter for reminding me that although a safety net is good to have, sometimes you just have to trust yourself and go forward without restraints.
Enjoy.
