The media and government have told us that the “Great Recession” was over in 2009, yet unemployment still tops 7% week in and out. The ‘recovery’ has been a painful one here as typified by Burgoyne, who in this Republic story made almost $17 per hour before the recession hit but then in the years since has been forced to settle for $11 per hour and $8 per hour because it was all that was available.
Contrary to what the government and press and have told you, only 46% of the jobs lost in Arizona have been replaced since the recession versus 77% nationally. Arizona also ranks 43rd in the private sector job creation over the past few years and 75% of the jobs created in the next year will require a high-school diploma or less. So, claims that Obama’s job creation is nothing more than minimum wage is spot on. The only high paying jobs since Obama took office are the 200 government positions he filled with his supporters and friends.
Heidi Moore, U.S. finance and economics editor of the Guardian said, “While some things are improving, the underlying data, especially regarding unemployment, is disappointing on many levels. If you dig in to the numbers, we’re not so well off. And that’s a problem for politics.”
Just because you see new construction going on- only 15% of the construction industry losses have been replaced. Including the most encouraging data, economists estimate Arizona will still be in recovery in 2016!
Unless things change we'll all be saying, "Welcome to Walmart."
