It's going to be a long wait until "Falling Skies" season 4 premieres, but at least you can already begin speculating about episode titles. On Wednesday, Sept. 11, the show's Twitter revealed the title of episode 401.
"#FallingSkies is back in production!" reads the tweet. "The title of episode 401 is "Ghost in the Machine" – wonder what this means…" Attached to the tweet is a photo of the script revealing the title, as you can see to the left. The term "ghost in the machine" is British philosopher Gilbert Ryle's description of the Cartesian dualist account of the mind-body relationship. He uses the term to refer to the idea of a fundamental distinction between mind and matter. How is that going to tie into the post-alien invasion world of the 2nd Mass?
"Falling Skies" won't be the first show to use this as an episode title, as Power Rangers in Space, Inspector Morse, The X-Files, The 4400, Kyle XY, Ghost Whisperer, The Flash, Stargate Atlantis, Superman: The Animated Series, The Transformers, Caprica, Futurama, and Bones all have.
As season 3 ended, the 2nd Mass broke off from the Volm to continue fighting the Espheni in separate places, and the survivors were back on the road. Maggie killed Karen, and Tom was reunited with Anne and Lexi—a seven-year-old Lexi, who was able to debug Lourdes with merely a touch. We already know that season 4 is going to pick up about two weeks after the finale, and we're going to be meeting a new big bad next summer.
"Falling Skies" season 4 premieres in the summer of 2014. What do you think of the premiere title "Ghost in the Machine" means?
