"Falling Skies" season 3 may not premiere until the summer, but the show has received recognition for its second season, as it received four Saturn Awards nominations, which were announced Tuesday, Feb. 19.
The series itself was nominated for Best Television Presentation, along with "Breaking Bad," "Continuum," "Game of Thrones," "Ken Follett's World Without End," "Mockingbird Lane," and "Spartacus: War of the Damned." The second season was a strong one for the series, but was it strong enough to beat out the competition? And the competition is just as strong as it is in the other three categories for which the TNT drama has been nominated.
Three actors have been singled out with nominations, including a guest star from the final two episodes, "The Price of Greatness" and "A More Perfect Union." Moon Bloodgood, who plays Dr. Anne Glass, has been nominated as Best Actress along with Mireille Enos from "The Killing," Sarah Paulson from "American Horror Story: Asylum," Charlotte Riley from "Ken Follett's World Without End," Tracy Spiridakos from "Revolution," and Anna Torv from "Fringe." Meanwhile, Sarah Carter, who plays Maggie, is up for Best Supporting Actress against Jennifer Carpenter from "Dexter," Anna Gunn from "Breaking Bad," Laurie Holden from "The Walking Dead," Jessica Lange from "American Horror Story: Asylum," and Beth Riesgraf from "Leverage." Finally, Terry O'Quinn, who played Arthur Manchester in Charleston in the final two season 2 episodes, has been nominated for Best Guest Starring Role in a Series against Blair Brown and Lance Reddick from "Fringe," Mark Sheppard from "Leverage," and Ray Stevenson and Yvonne Strahovski from "Dexter."
Will "Falling Skies" win any Saturn Awards? The competition is tough, but what's important is the series is getting some recognition. It is a summer show, and those tend to be forgotten about sometimes, so we're glad to see it get recognized.
