Falling Rock Fresh Hop Festival celebrates its 9th year

Earlier this year the Colorado Brewers Guild and Imbibe Events announced the Lovibond Series. Each beer festival in this series focuses on a specific aspect of the brewing industry. The final installment of the series, the Falling Rock Fresh Hop Festival, will take place on Saturday, September 27 at Falling Rock Tap House (1919 Blake Street, Denver CO 80202) from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

“Hop harvesting is an annual labor of love for many within the craft beer industry,” said Steve Kurowski of the Colorado Brewers Guild. “Fresh hop beers are exciting and unique. Fresh hop beers tend to be pale ales and IPAs, but there can also be a lot of variation with the fresh hop style.”

Fresh hopped beers are defined as beers made with hops within 24 hours of being harvested. Hops play a vital role in the brewing process. Each hop flower contains lupulin, a sticky substance that is secreted when boiled. Lupulin contains essential oils, bitter acids and resins that contribute to bitterness, flavor and aroma of the beer. Hops also help preserve beer’s freshness.

Falling Rock Tap House has hosted the Fresh Hop Festival for nine years now. This year they have decided to partner up with the Colorado Brewers Guild and Imbibe Events to expand the festival. This event will showcase beers from Colorado and the West Coast. Brewers will be producing fresh hop IPAs, pale ales, brown ales, Belgians and stouts.
