Another favorite of the spring/summer 2012 season continued on into the cooler months: the pastel trend. Both pastels and shades of blushy pink were a surprising addition to the fall/winter 2012-13 collections, as one commonly sees them as part of a warm weather color family. However, there are two benefits to this 'trend recycling': first, use pre-existing items in your wardrobe for this season, and second, you can add to your wardrobe another few items which match this cooler climate.
What is in for the pink trend?
- single-soled shoes in varying pink tones
- ankle-strap heels
- Art Deco jewelry
- natural rock crystal jewelry (rose quartz, etc. in Ippolita-style pieces)
- delicately draped pencil skirts
- wrap blouses (especially with dolman sleeves)
What is in for the pastels trend?
- structured, well-tailored pants that cuff at the ankle
- drop-waisted dresses
- oversized coats
- skinny jeans, cords
- a colorblocked clutch
- lace details
All of these different features will make you look both effortless and on-trend for this season. Sure, pink is a pastel, but some people consider pink the end all to be all! Feel free to make either trend your own. Many people enjoy taking the Art Deco trend and running with it. Others go the geometric-meets-1980s look with bold accessories. And some stick with classic florals in pastel tones. Pastels and pinks are all elegant and flattering on all skin tones. Just know that these super feminine hues can work on everyone year round!
