As Elle magazine's Anne Slowey put it, "...the season's poster girl, an urban warrior if ever there was one, melds her steeliness with dark beauty, resurrecting a feeling of romance." (Elle May 2012, p 105-106). How is romance found in this gothic revival, you may ask? Thanks to details of jacquard, embroideries, studs, zippers, lace and iconography... dressing in this manner can be effortless.
Dressing can sometimes be difficult, but it should be fun, an adventure in experimentation. Go outside your normal, safe boundaries and try the gothic look. This time of year, with bitter cold and romantic Valentine's Day around the corner, makes dressing in fun layers incredibly easy. A sexy lace dress can be covered up by a mysterious cape or coat, accessorized by a zippered bootie and some leather gloves. This look can be softened by certain fabrics, colors, and textures. Think outside the box!
This trend is one where a head-to-toe, coordinated outfit is acceptable. Even if it seems costume-y. However, wearing this look at night is preferential... otherwise the gothic style might be taken too seriously.
