Fall is the time to do a whole house inspection for any areas that may need attention. Doors and windows are the first place to start when weather proofing and making sure they seal properly and have no air leaks. You can easily test for air leaks with a lit candle. Move the candle flame around the outer edge of the window and watch the candle flame. If the flame flickers, then you have an air leak and you should replace the weather stripping around the window. Do this to every door and window to check for leaks. Another cool trick to insulate windows is to apply bubble wrap to the inside of the window pane. This is easily done by cutting the bubble wrap to the size of the window pane, spray the window with water and stick the bubble wrap to the window. The bubble wrap will cling to the window with just water, so there is no need for special adhesive or remover.
