“Grey’s Anatomy” premieres its tenth season on Sept. 26. To hype the debut, ABC recently released a new preview video and it looks like this season will start with a bang. The big cliffhanger from last season is the future of Chief Richard Webber (played by James Pickins Jr.). When viewers last saw the fearless leader of Grey-Sloan Memorial, he was lying unconscious on the floor in the hospital’s basement. During the height of an atrocious storm, he tried to repair a generator to help the hospital weather the emergency. However, while trying to get the generator up and running, he was electrocuted. Finally, viewers will learn his fate. Is it the end of the road for Webber?
The first promo for the two-hour premiere promised that someone would die, so it seems logical that it would be the Chief. However, in a newer preview, it looks like Heather (played by Tina Majorino) is also in grave danger. She’s the first one to find Dr. Webber in the basement and gets an electric shock herself when she steps into the water. She also sustains a nasty bump on her head on the way down. So, which one will die? The Chief? Heather? Or both? That’s the big teaser for the season ten premiere.
“TV Guide” reported on Sept. 18, “So is Heather a goner? It could just as easily be Webber, who's been injured and unconscious far longer than Heather. Or maybe the electrocution is a big red herring and the real fatality is someone completely unexpected.” In other news concerning the premiere, “The Hollywood Reporter” stated, “Shane makes a dangerous decision that could drastically affect the life of a fellow intern.” That intern is Heather, who goes to find the Chief. For a preview, be sure to watch the video above and to the left.
This is the last season for Sandra Oh, who plays the wonderfully rich character of Christina Yang. Executive producer Shonda Rhimes told “TV Guide” that there would be plenty of drama between Yang and Owen leading up to Oh’s departure. “They want different things in life, and yet they love each other so much that being apart is painful,” she stated.
Things aren’t rosy for Callie Torres either. Last season, she learned that Arizona was unfaithful in their marriage. This season, Callie has huge issues as she struggles with Arizona’s infidelity. It’s especially painful because ex-husband George also cheated on Callie.
Thankfully, not every doctor at Grey-Sloan Memorial is in relationship hell. Having welcomed son Bailey in the finale, Meredith and Derek (Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey) will take some time away from the hospital this season to make room for family time. New couple Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) and Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) will continue to grow closer. Says Rhimes, “Alex has earned a little bit of happiness.”
Season ten of “Grey’s Anatomy” premieres at 9 p.m. EST (8 p.m. PST) on Thursday, Sept. 26 on ABC.
