'Fall to Pieces': Mary Forsberg Weiland's story of addiction, rock & roll and mental illness

She says that she decided to write her book Fall to Pieces, originally, because after being diagnosed with bipolar disease, and looking for more information on her condition, she couldn’t find what she was looking for. She says that she realized that there were important points tied to her story of bipolar disease (addiction, love addiction and "rock and roll--on the road") that made her story important and something that she wanted to share.

Mary Weiland carries the reader through her friendship with Scott Weiland, who, before his record deal, worked as a driver for her when she was a 16-year-old model. Their relationship moved from being friends, to being in love, getting married and having children. Weiland explains that she began drinking at 13 years old, but that it wasn’t really an issue for her until she got into her early 20's, and she began drinking heavily. Struggling with depression, she took on Scott's drug habits of using heroin and cocaine. In and out of rehab, she shares that it took a "really long time" for them to get better. Grateful that she could get out, she appreciates what she has learned from her experiences.

"Mary Weiland's beautifully crafted memoir takes the reader through the journey that is so very common today, the slow drift into addiction and mental illness. Honest, clear, and accurate, Fall to Pieces is perhaps the most vivid rendition of this experience I have ever come across." Dr. Drew Pinsky
