Fall weather, cooler temperatures make it great time to exercise
Fall, the crisper air, luster of colors and the sounds of crackling leaves under our feet.
It is also a great time for fitness and to start that exercise program if you have been putting it off till the kids went to school or simply just felt the summer days were simply too hot.
If you do not exercise your body you just may lose it as well. Your muscles start to become weak and flabby, your heart and lungs just do not function properly, your joints feel stiffness and those few extra pounds you had seem to be accumulating with each passing day.
We have all heard how exercise is important for health and to stave off obesity. Obesity is associated to health risks. If you think that diet and exercise is not important here are not important here is an example; a person that is 40% overweight has double the risk of dying prematurely than in comparison to a normal weight person. There are serious medical conditions linked to obesity such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, gallstones and gallbladder and gout.
Heart disease and stroke are the leading cause of death and disabilities for Americans.
Michigan is the 10th most obese state in our nation. This comes from the eight annual F as in Fat; How Obesity Threatens America’s Future 2011 report. There are 38 states in the nation that have obesity rates over 25%. Michigan’s rate is 30.5 percent a 77% increase within the last fifteen years.
Even a little bit of exercise provides your body with health benefits. With the colors of fall in the outdoors it avails you to smell that crisp cool air and breathe in some great oxygen that your lungs will surely appreciate.
According to Todd Durkin, MS, fitness coach and owner of Fitness Quest in San Diego, California fall is just fantastic for walking, hiking and cycling. Discover park trails by taking a walk or cycling.
Even raking those fall leaves is great way to get exercise. Exercise does not need to be a chore to get your heart pumping and burn calories. Even Fido may want to take a walk since the summer’s heat is leaving the air and the cool breeze ruffles his coat making him full of puppy spirit wanting to romp and tramp around alongside you.
