Packages of fresh cranberry packages begin to appear in supermarket produce section by mid-October, but you can find frozen cranberries throughout the year.
You can also freeze fresh cranberries and make them into sauce without defrosting, and combine them with other kinds of fruit including blueberries to make other sauces.
Package instructions for fresh cranberries advise using one cup of water and one cup of cane sugar per package of cranberries to make cranberry sauce, but you don’t need the sugar.
Healthy fresh cranberry sauce
Ingredients:
• Pour a third to a quarter of a cup of mild honey, agave nectar, or other sweetener into a one-cup measure.
• Fill the rest of the cup with water or orange juice.
Instructions
Pour cranberries into a sauce pan.
Boil fresh cranberries in sweetener and liquid over a low to medium heat. Stir occasionly.
