Fall practice underway for Gamecock football

The Gamecocks have begun their fall practice at the Bluff Road fields, and I've decided to start writing again, after taking a break for several months. So, I'm back, and hopefully better than ever.

Predictably, the big story after two days of camp is Marcus Lattimore.  The highly recruited true freshman back started turning heads on his first day of practice, running with the first team and catching a nice pass down the sidelines.  Spurrier has already stated that Lattimore knows the offense and will be ready for the season opener.

In other news, Stephen Garcia lost 10 pounds.  I'm pretty happy to hear this.  Nobody wants to see a Jared Lorenzen clone in the Carolina backfield.  Not that Garcia was anywhere near that big.  Maybe freshman QB Connor Shaw's athletic build and 4.5 40 time encouraged Garcia to drop some mass.

I hope to be able to make it to practice a few more times, snap some pictures, and post up my own little season preview soon.  Stay tuned...
