Fall Out Boy to stop covering Michael Jackson's 'Beat It' at shows, Pete Wentz says out of respect

AP

One of the members of Fall Out Boy, Pete Wentz says that they will no longer cover 'Beat It', one of Michael Jackson's legendary hits, out of respect for the King of Pop.

According to ContactMusic.com, Wentz told MusicRadar.com, "We never got the chance to (meet) him. I don't even know if he heard it. We kind of recorded it on a whim, like, nine months before he passed away. We've decided not to play it anymore. It's his song, you know? We put it on the record because we did a video for it, but it's definitely his song."

What do you think? Good idea?

They should play the song (as long as it's legal) & keep MJ's music alive

FYI: Pete Wentz is NOT the lead singer of FOB, it is Patrick Stump. ;)

Out of respect for MJ, they should keep playing the song!!! MJ was all about that and would have loved it!

It's a good cover and the video is great - kind of a funny tribute. They should keep playing it. I'm sure MJ knew about it since they would have had to get the rights. I remember them at the MTV Video Awards. They looked solemn and respectful during the Madonna speech and dance tribute.

I'm sure michael heard their cover having given them the rights to cover the song in the first place and have heard it after it was recorded. Michael wasn't out of the loop when it came to today's music..i think thats whats so sad that people never realized just how "like us" Michael was. Anyways, its not disrespectful. FOB should keep covering it in memory of the King. maybe a montage of michael playing on screen while they play the song. It is michael's song but his songs are what inspired this generation and many generations to come of music. They did a good job in covering it. I say keep playing it FOB

I'd say Fall Out Boy should play it, out of respect for Michael. It's a good song. We all know it's MJ's. No danger of anyone mistaking the real thing for a cover.

pete always said he loved MJ way before he died and he keeps proving that hes a real fan. thats really nice and very respectful of FOB to do that!! i agree..and i think every single one of the people who keep singing MJ's songs at their concerts should STOP cus fans don't wanna hear them they wanna hear MICHAEL like wentz said..its HIS song
