Fall in love with your new Valentine – Chicago-area pets needing homes

Are you looking for love this Valentine’s Day? Look no further than the many Chicago area shelter and rescues that have plenty of pets looking to settle into a home. Here are a few of the animals that need a second chance at a happy life – several had very tough starts and a few others just need a new home after losing their family.

Please share, post, tweet and pass along your best way possible to help these dogs and cats find a family.

Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control

Last fall, I did a story on Lilly because she came into Chicago Animal Care and Control as a lost three-month-old puppy with a severe case of mange. She just had a small spot of fur left on her tail and it was hard to determine what breed she was (see story). Look how far Lilly has come in a loving FCACC foster home. In the three months since her rescue, she has recovered from the horrible case of mange, been loved and has had been going to training class. This now six-month-old is sweet, happy, friendly and attentive. Lilly loves kids and other dogs but not cats. If you are interested in giving her a forever home, contact Anna at bullylove22@yahoo.com or Kat at kbudrean@hotmail.com. You may also help with her medical bills by donating here.

Harmony House for Cats

Mama Imposter is a beautiful Maine Coon mix that managed to escape the streets by impersonating another cat and just walking into someone's home. Once she was discovered, the houses owner found her a place at Harmony House. She loves attention and loves people but is still adjusting to all the other cats. Mama is about 1 1/2.

Heartland Animal Shelter

Hilton has the sweetest eyes and is a gentle, loving 3-year-old boy that came into the shelter as a stray. He’s been attending training classes with a volunteer and has quickly learned his basic commands. Like many Pit Bulls, he loves to please his people. Hilton’s friends are impressed with his eagerness and he’s come a long way from his life on the streets and would love to settle into a forever home with a warm bed and family to call his own.

Tree House Humane Society

Karin is a sweet senior citizen that could really use a break. This charming 10-year-old girl was abandoned and misses her family. She is really a purr monster and loves people, despite her health issues. She is suffering from kidney failure, constipation and FIV.  Cats that are FIV+ may live a long life if kept indoors in a stress-free environment. FIV+ cats adopted from Tree House are eligible for a lifetime veterinary-care plan that includes an annual exam and discounted treatments. Tree House also adopts out FIV cats for free.

Save-A-Pet

If you are looking for a fun, playful dog that has plenty of energy with a little maturity, look no further than Buddy. Although he’s around 10-years-old, he plays like a much younger dog. He’s well mannered, loves to go out and play and really loves a good meal after playtime. Buddy is very well trained and will let you know when he needs a potty break. He’s lived with cats, dogs and kids in his previous home and did well with all the activity. This sweet fellow would love nothing more than to find a forever home so that he may settle into an active retirement.

Young at Heart Pet Rescue

Mokey is a sweet senior who had a family but lost her home when her previous owner felt they traveled too much. She’s very low-key and really loves just settling into a home with a forever family. Mokey is a great girl who loves lounging and climbing the cat tree. She also does well with other kitties but is a bit chubby and is now on a new diet to slim down a tad.
