Getting lost in the sea of platform heels this season? The past seasons of platform shoes took women to height (killer heels), passion (studded) and undefined proportions (geometric) all in the name of fashion. Pre-fall styles inspired many to go for the 1970s casual chic bohemian look. Now Fall 2010 is shaping into another steady trend - the island platforms.
Island platforms are also known as recessed, inset, layered, structured or floating platforms. These are the modern look of inset front heels as low as 1/2 inch slightly smaller than the upper that fit as an outer as well as decorative part of the sole. The oval shaped front heels make the shoes appear to be standing on an island. Hence, island platform.
Although the sky high and triple platforms are still around, women are looking into an unexpected dose of classy, sophisticated and spirited lower platforms from favorite designers. Do not be surprised, however, island platforms can also go as high as 1 1/2 inches front and 4 1/2 to 5 back (see L.A.M.B "Gale")
Since these modern shoes are shallow at the front, opt for a slightly low (3 inches) back heels for longlasting wear. Otherwise choose a tall (4 1/2 inches) pair with arched insoles for extra length and oomph.
Suggested designers with affordable island platforms: Madden girl "Sameraa Pumps", L.A.M.B "Glam", Mea Shadow "Cettina" and Michael Kors "Heidi". Shop platforms both in stores and online.
For Honolulu shoppers, Macy's is still having its summer sale. For Kauai shoe shoppers, Macy's at Lihue do not currently have these platforms on sale but the latest tall boots are available together with uber fabulous pumps by Nine West, Jessica Simpson and BCBGeneration. Famous Footwear do not have platforms yet but they do have Fergielicious and Hot Kiss ongoing pumps sale.
