On Thursday ModernSalon.com revealed one of the hottest hair trends for fall, the mermaid ponytail and the Hair Care Examiner has the hairstyle tips from Nicholas Penna on how to recreate this romantic look.
Owner and head stylist of SalonCapri in Boston, Nicholas Penna, gave Modern Salon his spring 2014 hair trend predictions that were inspired from the catwalks of New York Fashion Week. The mermaid ponytail combines two popular fall hair trends, the tousled, soft up-do and the boho braid. Penna details how to recreate this amalgamation of braid, basket weave, pony and bun, in what Modern Salon described as a “peek-a-boo, un-braided mermaid tail.”
Fall hair trend, the mermaid ponytail
- Prep roots with a texturizing powder, Nicholas recommends L’Oreal Professionnel True Grip Texturizing Powder.
- Begin by loosely braiding one or two small sections behind the ear. Then, twist the main portion of the hair, and pin to the back of the head. Make sure to add volume to the crown area by backcombing, and gently tugging upwards with a fine-tooth comb.
- Loosely braid hair, incorporating the one or two tight braids you created. To create a messier look, gently pull sections of the hair out to hang loose.
- Secure the bottom with a hair elastic and finish with a coat of Penna’s recommended Shu Uemura Sheer Lacquer Finishing Spray.
The mermaid ponytail, ModernSalon.com’s highlighted fall hair trend, is perfect for the pending holidays and can be neatened up if one preferred a tighter look for a wedding or formal affair. SalonCapri is an award-winning salon that has been featured countless times in numerous magazines such as Health, Elle and Redbook, among others.
