With summer coming to an end there is still a lot of fun to have outside with your family.
September is a great time for apple picking. At Applecrest Farm located in Hampton Falls, they have festivals on the weekend until the end of October. These festivals begin at 11:00 a.m. and go to 5:00 p.m. Applecrest has fun for all ages with; live folk music, farmers market, face painting, horse drawn rides, children’s petting zoo, and much more!
Every day is a new learning experience for your child. What better way for your child to learn than to give them real life experiences. Before you go to a farm or apple picking, you can read books about farms and what they might see. You can also read books about apples and apple picking and read how they grow. This is a fantastic way to spark a conversation with your child. Remember even if your child is a young it’s important to talk to them and name animals or objects that they see. This will help them learn vocabulary if there not talking yet or for your older children, this will give them a learning opportunity to expand their knowledge.
Here are a few books you could share with your child about apple picking or farms: Up, up, up! It's Apple Picking Time by Jody Fickes Shapiro, Kitty Harvill (Illustrator), Harvest Time by Mercer Mayer.
These books can be found at your local library or you can purchase them at book stores such as Barnes and Noble.
