Days like this are what make Minnesota great. It's 70 degrees out - it makes me feel like foraging for my own food!
Where to Go and What to Get
Pumpkins come to mind. If you are feeling like picking your own, there are over a hundred places to go within hours of the Twin Cities. Find the ones closest to you using this site (I've already selected "pumpkins" for you - just type in your zip code). Search for other stuff, too, on the MDA site. The picture of my family is at Dimler Farms in St. Bonifacius (Hwy 7, about 10 minutes west of Minnetonka) RECOMMENDED!
APPLES! Oh yes, and apple donuts, cider, hayrides - this is what autumn in Minnesota is all about. There are about 40 orchards listed in this site and it does a great job of displaying hours, produce and activities all on the same page.
Wineries are absolutely spectacular this time of year. In Minnesota, we don't have a lot to choose from, but this site has collected a number of them, some I have never heard of, and maps them out with all the info you'd need to select your favorites.
I have been to Delano's Woodland Winery a few times. One that I don't see on the site that I should mention is Parley Lake Winery - Victoria, MN (Hwy 5, just a few minutes West of the MN Arboretum in Chanhassen)
Raspberries - I think the MDA has the best site for this. I've already selected "Raspberries" for you - just type in your zipcode for the closest places for "Fall bearing" raspberries.
And, if you are really sincere about picking your own produce - FarmerDirect2You indicates berry farms and other fields where you can forage to your heart's delight: http://www.farmerdirect2you.com/farms-MN.aspx
PickYourOwn.org is also another great source at: http://www.pickyourown.org/MN.htm
Get out there and enjoy Minnesota's produce!!
