Fall festivals and events in the Chicago area on the first weekend of Oct., 2013, celebrate the harvest and the farm. The big festivals of the summer may be over for the season, but there are family friendly festivals being held in communities around the Chicagoland area. Naperville: Naper Settlement is holding the fall fest Oktoberfest on Fri. evening and Sat., Oct. 4-5. The annual autumn event that celebrates the heritage of the community at the historic village in Naperville. Enjoy live musical entertainment ranging from classic German Oompa music to classic rock, along with German beer and cuisine. Family-friendly activities will be available on Saturday from noon-5 p.m. Tickets $15 for adults/seniors and $10 for youth (4-12), under 12 free.
Chicago: Navy Pier Oktoberfest is celebrated by various locations on the pier from Sept. 21-Oct. 6. German food specials and seasonal beers are offered at at participating restaurants and locations at Navy Pier, including Billy Goat Tavern, City Porch, Harry Caray’s Tavern, Riva Crab House and Landshark Beer Garden.
Glencoe: Chicago Botanic Gardens is holding their annual Fall Bulb Festival for gardeners to pick their bulbs to plant for next spring's flowers. Admission is free but there is a $20 parking fee to park on the grounds.
Fox Lake: Oktoberfest is held under the big tent on Sat. 6-11 p.m. Adults only festival is held at Lakefront Park, 71 Nippersink Rd. in Fox Lake.
Lake Villa: American Aid Society of German Descendants Oktoberfest in Lake Villa draws a crowd from around the Chicagoland area. The festival runs three Saturdays, Sept. 22, 28 and Oct. 5 (6:30-midnight). The lively fest features German dancing, food, beer, liquors. Admission $8.
Libertyville: The 4th annual sponsorship of Pumpkin Fest, a community favorite event sponsored by the Junior Women's League and the Rotary club, will be on Sat. from 10 a.m. -2 p.m.. They distribute pumpkins to children in exchange for a donated food item to benefit the local food pantry. The event offers kid friendly activities and entertainment. The Library is sponsoring their Touch the Trucks event from 10am – 12pm.
Lindenhurst: Lake County Forest Preserves offers the old-fashioned fair Bonner Country Fair at Bonner Farm on Sun., Oct. 6 (noon-4 p.m.) in Lindenhurst. Admission $5, children 3 and under free.
Chicago: Chicago Brauhaus is a popular German restaurant featuring special German food and music for the Oktoberfest season, Sept. 25-Oct. 27. Special Oktoberfest entertainment features The Brauhaus Oktoberfest Band with Max, Cody & Wolfgang. Chicago Brauhaus is at 4732 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago.
Rosemont: Chicago Hofbrauhaus is a replica of the famed beer hall in Munich. Located in Rosemont, near O'Hare Airport, Chicago Hofbrauhaus is a brewery, beer hall and restaurant. Oktoberfest food specials and music are offered Sept. 13-Oct. 31.
