The lineup of Maine’s fall season of festivals, cider tastings and arts and crafts shows is a doozey. Head up to Maine to hear the sounds of leaves crunching under your feet as you get out and enjoy these family friendly events.
End of summer celebration in South Thomaston
Say goodbye to summer the Finnish way with Finn Fling Day. Mark your calendars for Sept. 17th for a day full of weaving demonstrations, kantele music, delicious Finnish food and baked goods, door prizes and live entertainment.
The stars at night
The Maine Starlight Festival takes place Sept. 23rd – Oct. 2nd, observatories, astronomy clubs, planetariums and science centers across the state will host star-gazing parties, viewings of the solar system and educational talks.
Sip some Maine made cider in South Casco, Brooksville, Lewiston and Winthrop
Throughout the fall these wineries will be offering wine and cider tastings. Blacksmith’s Winery makes Fatty Bampkins a malt cider that they ferment in bourbon barrels. Sow’s Ear Winery uses wild apples grown on the Blue Hill peninsula in its English style cider. While Tanguay & Son Winery presses and ferments the juice of Maine grown McIntosh’s to use in their Hard Frost Cider. The Kennebec Cider Company is known far and wide for their award winning Maine Ice Cider.
Oktoberfest fun in Gardiner, Belgrade Lakes and York Beach
Start October off right with the Swine & Stein Festival, Oct. 1st on Gardiner’s historic streets. Sample some brews, German food specialties and enjoy live entertainment in this daylong event. Oktoberfest comes to Belgrade Lakes on October 8th with celebrations of German beer, food and bands. The York Beach Harborfest & Kidsfest takes place Oct. 15th – 16th. Enjoy juried crafts fairs, raffles, ox roasts, Native American Pow Wows, pony and horse drawn wagon rides, face painting and 200 food and craft vendors.
Fly high over Mount Desert Island
Take to the air with Acadia Air Tours in a World War II era T6 Texan for a chance to fly upside down and experience other aeronautical tactics all the while enjoying views of spectacular fall colors over Mount Desert Island.
