If you live in Northeast Ohio, mark you calendar now for Cleveland’s upcoming "Ripe! Fest No. 4," which will take place at the Cleveland Botanical Garden on Saturday, Sept. 21 and Sunday, Sept. 22. The festival is presented by PNC and Cuyahoga Arts and Culture.
Everyone in the family will find something fun to do, and something delicious to eat. In describing the festival, the Botanical Garden’s website says, “Both days of RIPE! Fest are filled with special workshops and tastebuds to satisfy rumbling bellies and green thumbs alike.”
An onsite marketplace will feature a large number of vendors who will offer everything from handmade gifts to ice cream. Vendors will include, among many others: Burning River Candle Co., Mitchell’s Ice Cream, Plantscaping, Pieorogies of Cleveland and Terra Verde Handmade. With Christmas a few months away, it’s the perfect chance to get a jump on your holiday shopping with some unique offerings from local talent.
Adults and children will both have a potpourri of programs to choose from at this “feast for the senses.”
For the grown-ups in the family, programs such as Western Reserve Herb Society’s “Healthy Herbal Dips” or Whole Foods’ “Backyard Bee Gardening” will be tempting and informative. Each afternoon offers the chance for adults to wind down with beer and wine tastings from local vendors.
Children can enjoy a variety of fun happenings, such as a puppet show which will be presented by the Cleveland Public Library, or a veggie carving which will be presented by Bon Appetit.
The event makes allowance for Cleveland’s unpredictable fall weather by conducting activities in the Garden’s visitor center or under tent cover.
Tickets are available in advance at the Garden’s website http://www.cbgarden.org, as well as at the door. If you buy your tickets early, you’ll save a few dollars, and you’ll save even more if you’re a member of the Botanical Garden. Advance tickets are a bargain at $6 for non-member adults and $4 for non-member children. Tickets to RIPE! also serve as an admission ticket to Cleveland Botanical Garden and its award-winning gardens.
Cleveland Botanical Garden and RIPE! Fest are located in University Circle, which has street parking and surface lot parking. Other parking options include the Garden’s own on-site garage, or the parking garages of the Cleveland Museum of Art or the VA Hospital.
