Autumn has officially taken over, and with it comes fresh, exciting beauty trends. Makeup tends to get a little darker, hairstyles tend to get a bit messier, and nails... well, nails are in a category all their own. Over the past couple of years, intricate nail art, "impossible" nail designs, and crazy colors and techniques have blown up- on the runway, the red carpet, and on the streets. Even press-on nails are making something of a comeback. Nail art is just all over the place right now.
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City was held just a couple of weeks ago, and as can be expected, wild fashion, hairstyles and makeup were everywhere. But there was something happening on the nails of several shows' models that hasn't been seen before. Nail designer Jin Soon Choi, who owns JINsoon, was responsible for much of the nail art at Fashion Week this year. And there were some shows at which she used simple polishes, such as light nude shades. But at some shows- Tess Giberson for one- Jin Soon applied black polish to the nails, but then swiped over it with polish remover. The look was dark and deconstructed- perfect for fashion week.
Press-on nails are another thing we are seeing more and more of, both on the runway and the red carpet. Designers and stylists have realized that for a couple of big reasons, press-on nails can be an invaluable option for their clients and models. For one, press-ons are super-convenient. They take almost no time to apply, need no drying time, and can be removed in seconds. Secondly, press-on nails offer myriad designs- including wild patterns, geometrics and fading- that could take hours and cost a fortune to apply with actual polish. Another bonus: They're cheap. Models at the Michael van der Ham show in London's Fashion Week wore one of three press-on nail choices. One was dark blue with a silvery metallic design, one was black with a yellow flower pattern, and another was a pastel pink and blue design.
With all the options out there right now in shades, decals, art tools, stencils, shapes, and even basic types of product available, you have more options available to you right now than anyone ever before.
