Each year Pantone releases it's color of the year, along with it's color forecasts for each season. This year the fall colors have been released and include: Emerald (the color of the year), Linden Green, Mykonos Blue, Acai, Samba, Koi, Deep Lichen Green, Carafe, Vivacious, & Turbulence. The colors vary from deep jewel tones to lighter earth tones. The variation in tones allows for many color palettes to be formed using those colors, but also allows for you to add one or more of the colors to an already existing color palette. For example, if you tend toward warmer, earth tones, you could easily add Linden Green or Carafe to your home without feeling like something is out of place. If you enjoy bold colors, try adding Acai or Samba to spice things up a bit. Mykonos Blue is a beautiful color that makes a bold statement. No matter what color(s) you decide to go with, there are easy and cost-effective ways to introduce them to your space.
When adding new design elements, think accessories first. Try adding patterned pillows or a plush throw in a bold color. Lamps are also a great way to infuse color into a space in a small dose, while still being a functional part of a design. If you have a gallery wall, try swapping out your basic mats for colored ones to add contrast and color to a large wall space. If you are feeling extremely inspired, paint is always an inexpensive way to make a bold statement. You can add an accent wall to a room or paint your front door.
Just remember, a trend does not have to dictate your design style. These colors will be popping up in design showrooms and in the aisles of your favorite store, but don't feel like you have to go buy all new furniture. Add color in layers and textures to create a design that feels like it's been accumulated over time.
