According to CBSsports.com on Tuesday September 17, the Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith said that Steven Jackson has been ruled out for this Sunday’s Miami game. Jackson has an injured thigh. The Falcons find themselves sitting at .500 and traveling to an undefeated Miami team that won two games on the road.
Steven Jackson injured the thigh early in the first quarter of the Falcons win over St. Louis. It shouldn’t be so bad, if he can come back after missing a week, but the Atlanta-Journal Constitution reported he could miss games into October.
It’s more important than ever for Julio Jones and Roddy White to stay healthy the next few weeks.
CBS Sports notes that if Jackson misses the next three games, then he’ll have a bye week to rest up for the stretch run. While the loss of Jackson could hurt the Falcons’ running game in the short run, this could be a long term blessing for Atlanta’s playoff hopes. That would be especially true if the Falcons sweep through the AFC East the next few weeks.
All hope is not lost in the running back department however. Jacquizz Rodgers should get an increased workload with Jackson’s injury. When he is not in the game, Jason Snelling will help carry the load in the backfield.
If all else fails, and Jackson’s thigh injury lingers, the Falcons can still bring back Michael Turner.
