Falcon's Fury is the new drop tower that will open at Busch Gardens Tampa in 2014, where it will send riders plummeting 335 feet face down. Construction in the Timbuktu area of the part is moving along rapidly, and the park just reached a key point: arrival of 519 tons of tower pieces.
Click the video accompanying this article to see the pieces arrive. The pieces traveled close to 5,000 nautical miles from Spain to the Port of Tampa, where they were trucked to Busch Gardens Tampa over the course of two days.
The huge cylinder sections aren't the only tower parts to arrive from Europe. Over the past several months, smaller components have come in from places like Switzerland, Slovakia, and Germany. All together the vertical tower will consist of nine sections that are up to 20 feet each in diameter.
Much as the roller coaster SheiKra is named for a diving bird, Falcon's Fury gets its moniker from the fastest avian on earth. A falcon can dive at 200 miles per hour, but rides on this new attraction will drop at a comparatively sluggish 60 miles per hour.
There's no official opening date yet, but expect the very first riders to challenge Falcon's Fury some time next spring.
