Manti Te'o's fake girlfriend apparently duped others. On Jan. 18, ABC News reported that Te'o wasn't the only one who was hoaxed by his "online girlfriend." The new report suggests that other people also fell for the elaborate prank. Evidently the fake "Lennay Kekua" was also corresponding with others online -- so Te'o might not be the only one who is broken hearted and embarrassed by all of this.
"[There were] a lot of other people that she was corresponding with before and maybe even during her relationship [with Te'o]," said the Schulman brothers. Of course this would make sense, given the details of this scam.
This fake girlfriend likely duped others in to thinking that she existed -- and even that she was suffering from leukemia. It is unknown if the person behind the prank (believed to be Ronaiah Tuiasosopo) kept the same story going for every online relationship he conducted through the Lennay character.
Manti Te'o has been very quiet since learning about the hoax. Some people think that he was actually in on it and that he used the story to benefit him in some way -- perhaps to make him more likeable. At this point, everything is still being looked at, investigated, and analyzed.
If this fake girlfriend duped others, there could be lawsuits galore for any one involved.
