A man posing as a taxi driver kidnapped, raped and robbed a woman at gunpoint in Marietta. And police on Wednesday released a sketch of the suspect, hoping that someone will be able to identify and help capture him.
The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. Thursday on Lake Drive near Claymore Drive, according to Marietta police.
Investigators said the man was driving an older model white Ford Crown Victoria with an unknown taxi logo with red lettering when he offered the woman a ride.
“The suspect brandished a handgun during the commission of the crime that took place in the back seat of the vehicle,” police spokesman Officer David Baldwin said.
The victim was allowed to leave the vehicle after the assault and the suspect was last seen traveling towards the South Marietta Parkway. Police did not say how long he held the woman captive.
The suspect is described as a possible Hispanic male who is 6 feet, 2 inches tall, between 40 and 45 years old.
He has a scar over the right eye, a tattoo of a teardrop below the left eye and a large tattoo of a bird or eagle with red eyes on one of his forearms, Officer Baldwin said.
Anyone with information as to the identity or whereabouts of the suspect is asked to contact Detective Arrowood at (770) 794-5371 or the Marietta Police Anonymous Tip Line at (770) 794-6990.
