As I was sitting at my desk today, I glanced up and saw one of the crosses hanging on my wall. The words "Faithful Servant" are inscribed on the cross bar. It got me thinking about what it truly means to be a faithful servant.
So, what does it mean to be a servant that is faithful? Is it seen in accolades, pastoring a large church, or is it something else altogether? I believe it to be doing what God has called you to do in the place He has called you to do it. Even if there are no accolades, pats on the back from others, or recognition of any kind. The only praise we should need is a, "Well done," from Jesus.
Can we be content with that? Can we be secure enough in who we are as Christ followers that we do God's chosen task for us even if we don't ever receive any recognition for it? I hope so. I hope I can be secure enough.
I think it's fitting that these words are written on the cross. Jesus was the epitome of faithful. Did He desire the Cross? NO. Did he go there anyway? YES! And I will be forever thankful that He did!
Oh, that He would find us faithful when He returns!
