According to the Riverhead News Review, the body of an elderly woman who was missing in Riverside, N.Y., was discovered on Sunday - her dog was still by her side.
On Thursday, 82-year-old Jean Taber had set out for a walk with her cocker spaniel, but the pair never returned home. A search for the elderly woman began on Saturday.
A helicopter located the woman's body in the woods, a couple of miles from her home, on Sunday afternoon - her loyal dog had never ventured away.
Foul play is not suspected - Trooper Tammy Mickoliger stated:
She was possibly disoriented, and unfortunately may have expired from the elements after a certain amount of time had expired. Until the Medical Examiner’s investigation is done, we can’t speculate on the cause of death.
A veterinarian determined that Ms. Taber's faithful companion suffered from dehydration following the ordeal.
