Luke 15:11 And He said, A certain man had two sons: 12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. 13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. (KJV)
First, the son demanded his inheritance at the wrong time. It was not the time appointed of the father. And, because the father divided unto him his living it separated the son from the will of his father. He did not walk in the authority of the will of his father any longer given that he was not subject to his father's will. For a son must be subject to the obedience of his earthly father as long as his father is alive. This is wrong in the sight of God because the command given to Moses and repeated by Jesus in Mark 7:10. Honor thy father and mother that your days may be long upon the earth. If anyone is not subject to their earthly father and/or God they are out of control and are not walking in faith.
Secondly, the son misused his inheritance just as many believers would do if it were given to them at the time they asked for it. This is the reason that inheritance of the sons of God is the new earth as recorded in Revelation chapter 21, Matthew 5:5 and Matthew 25:34. And, it is given by the heavenly Father at His appointed time. Believers like the prodigal son can misuse the inheritance of God if it is riches on earth given to immature or disobedience sons. However, if they are subject to the Heavenly Father, they like sons and servants have use of all the riches that is in the Master’s house. This is the riches of Believers as recorded in (Romans 8:17, 2 Corinthians 8:9).
Luke 15:14, “And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. 15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. 17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, 19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.”
