Faith Like A Mustard Seed

We all know that mustard seeds are small and unassuming in and of themselves; but they were also important enough to be singled out in one of Jesus' parables in the Bible. The mustard seed is an example of your measure of faith. Even if you have the smallest amount of faith as possible, that is still a basis in which it can grow and move mountains.
"Jesus uses rhetorical hyperbole to make the point that little is much when it comes from God. The mustard seed in the parable grows to be a huge tree, representing the tiny beginnings of Christianity when just a few disciples began to preach and teach the gospel. Eventually the kingdom grew to huge proportions, encompassing the entire world and spreading over centuries." (S. Michael Houdmann)
Mustard seeds are mentioned several times in Scripture; for example, in Matthew 17:14-20 and another time in Luke 17:6, where Jesus said, "If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea, and it will obey you.'" S. Michael Houdmann says, "By using the uncommonly small mustard seed as an example, Jesus is speaking figuratively about the incalculable power of God when unleashed in the lives of those with true faith."
Faith will never be easy, and it will always be a struggle to have even the smallest measure, like that of a mustard seed. But once sown, mustard seeds will always grow when they are cultivated and refined. "The Lord will provide occasions for you to believe Him and respond in obedience. These situations are what we call 'problems.' Begin to look at each difficulty as an opportunity designed by God specifically for the purpose of increasing your faith so He can do great things in and through you." (Dr. Charles Stanley)
Mustard seeds serve as a reminder to always be encouraged and never lose hope, because you know that the tiniest amount of faith can yield the greatest of triumphs.

"Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." --Matthew 17:20 (NIV)

"The kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches."
--Matthew 13:31-32 (NIV)
