Guadalupe River Park in San Jose, Calif., will be transformed into a fairy-tale world when the San Jose Fantasy Faire takes place on April 12 and 13. This family-friendly event will feature an interactive village full of fantasy and mythological characters in costumes such knights and princesses as well as elves and fairies. There will be enticing stage performances of Elizabeth music, Irish and Scottish dances, puppetry and Italian comedy. An exciting medieval-style combat ala “Lord of the Rings” will also astound viewers.

Characters portrayed will include those from Hans Christian Andersen’s stories and Grimm’s fairy tales. Disney princesses such as Cinderella, Rapunzel, Ariel, Belle, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty will also be roaming the faire. Villains like Rumpelstiltskin, pirates and evil witches will add fun into the mix. Other popular characters such as Merida, Elsa/Anna, Alice, Red Riding Hood, Aladdin and Peter Pan will also be entertaining the crowd. There will be dragons, a Hobbit, a pirate ship and a Steampunk area. A certain Blue Box is also rumored to make an appearance.

Patrons are encouraged, though not required, to dress up in their favorite fantasy attire. Suggested costumes include fairy tale, medieval, Steampunk, storybook, fantasy, science fiction (including Time Lords). There will be two costume contests held on both days at the faire, for both the young and the young at heart. Also of interest to costumers are the artisans who will be selling costumes, props and accessories.

A number of award winning authors will be on hand to share their work and love of fantasy. Attending authors include Davidson L. Haworth, S. L. Gray, M. Todd Gallowglas, Renee Murphy, Valerie Estelle Frankel, A.E. Marling and Christopher J Garcia.

The event is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $12.00 for adults, $10.00 for seniors, military and ages 13-17, $7.00 for children 6-12. Children under 6 are free. Tickets are available at:
