Fair Trade for Moms on Mother's Day: gifts for expectant moms

In honor of Fair Trade Day on May 8 and Mother's Day on May 9, Fair Trade Federation and I have teamed up to bring Hawaii's families ethically produced, sustainable, and fun gift ideas for Mom. Every day we'll feature awesome gifts that give back to other mothers and families worldwide. Learn more about fair trade by visiting Fair Trade Federation's website!

Hawaii moms are always up on fashion, so why not get your favorite mother-to-be started with a few key accessories?  She'll love the thought, and you'll love seeing her break out these gifts in a few months when her belated Mother's Day gift arrives!

Onesie and hat gift set by Siempre Sol, $20.  Made of 100% cotton, the weave on these gift sets is superb for airflow on warm days.  It doesn't hurt that they're adorable, too!  The four designs are unisex and come in English and Spanish phrases.

Lotka Keepsake Album by Tibet Collection, $32.  Your baby will be special; his or her baby book should be as well.  This album has a hand-screened cover, acid-free archival-quality paper, and beautiful colors--an elegant showcase for baby's first milestones.

Diaper bag by Trade for Change, $44.  Mom's going to need something sturdy to haul all of her new accessories around, preferably in something that Dad will like too!  An attractive hand-batiked design, lots of pockets, and roomy handcrafted construction makes this an pretty and essential piece.

Knit toys by Yellow Label Kids, $20-$45.  Cloth toys feel nice for baby, look nice to parents, and are wonderfully durable.  Try a knitted rattle set or some adorable fake food for a gift that parents can use for years without worrying about plastic chemicals.
