A community tradition spanning almost a century, the 91st Annual South Mountain Fair is in full swing now through Saturday, Aug. 25. Come out and experience all the makings of a good old-fashioned small country fair at the South Mountain Fairgrounds, just nine miles from the Gettysburg 150th National Civil War Battle Reenactment site.
This fair, which celebrated its kickoff this past Tuesday is a fun, family festive summer endeavor complete with all the makings to delight both children and adults alike. Kids will love all the activities awaiting them including rides and real live barn animals.
Throughout the five days of the fair, visitors will enjoy browsing and buying many vended and displayed goods including produce, preserves, flowers and much more. Homemade needlework and photography exhibits will be on display as well. In addition, free nightly entertainment will be ongoing each day of the fair in the fairgrounds auditorium.
Wednesday evening featured a horse pull and tonight, Thursday evening, there will be a wonderful fireworks display. Be sure to stop back on Saturday evening for the antique tractor and farm machinery parade to head the event home.
There is so much to see and do over the five days spanning the fair, so why not make it an extended vacation? You may do just that by staking your claim at the campgrounds, onsite. The campgrounds, located at the fairgrounds, feature barns, 20 electrical campsites and plenty of parking spaces. Outside water sources are available as well as bathroom facilities (no showers).
In addition to this annual fair, the South Mountain Fairgrounds host many other ongoing events throughout the year. Other popular events to consider attending include: The Apple Blossom Festival, in May; the Annual Wheel Horse Tractor Show, in June, and the Annual National Apple Harvest Festival, in October.
