The cold front that brought almost an inch of rainfall to the Albany International Airport yesterday afternoon is now well to our east. A secondary cold front is about to pass through the region early this morning. Upon the secondary frontal passage, winds will shift from the west and southwest, to the northwest for the afternoon hours. It may be a bit brisk at times this afternoon, as cooler air is ushered into the region on these northwesterly breezes.
High pressure will build into the region overnight tonight, and last through Thursday. A couple days of fair and dry weather are anticipated with temperatures generally near normal, though perhaps a few degrees below normal during the overnight period. The outlying areas, and higher elevations, may see temperatures drop to near the freezing mark, allowing for the formation of frost and subsequent end of the growing season.
Coastal low pressure is forecast to meander slowly northward from the northeastern Florida coast today, to the Carolina coast on Thursday, and then well out to sea by the weekend. It is possible that the cloud shield and some light showers on the northern periphery of this system may encroach upon the Capital Region Thursday night and Friday. High pressure should rebuild quickly into the region by the weekend, allowing for temperatures to moderate a tad, and skies to become mostly sunny.
