Facebook to reportedly unveil new smartphone

Popular social networking hub, Facebook will reportedly be adding a new element to their brand as they prepare to unveil their own smartphone.

According to the New York Times, the Mark Zuckerberg owned social company will be releasing a new smartphone sometime next year. The newspaper cites sources close to the situation as stating that Facebook has hired more than half a dozen engineers from technology giant, Apple who have worked on popular devices such as the much coveted iPhone andiPad brands.

One employee told the Times, “(CEO) Mark (Zuckerberg) is worried that if he doesn't create a mobile phone in the near future that Facebook will simply become an app on other mobile platforms."

Reportedly, the phone has been dubbed with the code name, Buffy. Representatives from Facebook have neither confirmed nor denied these reports, insisting that they’re working across the entire mobile industry including operators, hardware manufacturers, OS providers, and application developers.

Reportedly, this hails as Facebook’s third attempt to launch their own smartphone brand but prior attempts to jump into such a market failed to materialize.
