Facebook selectively restricting communication by conservatives

The social networking site Facebook is allegedly targeting conservative users for “selective” and disproportionate restrictions of their communications privileges on the site, according to today's edition of The Dryer Report. As reported here, there have been many allegations of facebook censorship of conservative users of the web site in the past.

This instance involves the case of ThePatriotFactor.com blogger Diane Sori, who recently found her posting privileges on Facebook suspended for 30 days as a result of a post she did not post. It turned out that a post was removed from a group or page where she serves as administrator, and as a result, her posting privileges were suspended for 30 days.

Sori further researched the issues, even having correspondence with someone who works for Facebook, and found out that there is no such policy requiring all administrators for a group or page to be have communication abilities suspended as a result of a post on the group or page. Sori reports that the enforcement by Facebook is selective and disproportionately targeted to conservative users of the site.

Sori summed up the issue, by writing, “So folks, why isn’t this ‘standard policy’ in the FB rules (watch them try to add it in to cover themselves now that they’ve been challenged), and why have some admins of the site in question only been warned while some others have been banned or blocked for just for one day, some for 3 days, and some like me for 30 days….and why have most all of the admins been unblocked (including the person who actually put up the post in question) while I, who had absolutely NOTHING to do with said post, have NOT. “

A search of Google using the search term “conservative censorship on facebook” yields more than 3.7 million results and numerous articles about censorship of conservatives on Facebook and the launching of conservative alternatives to the social networking site. The two most prominent alternatives to Facebook at this time appear to be The Tea Party Community and WePluribus.net. Both sites seem to have several thousand members and are rapidly growing in membership and usage.
