Facebook says it was hacked: Users’ information reportedly not compromised (Video)

The world’s largest social network has succumbed to cyber attacks.

According to a Reuters report, Facebook Inc. announced on Feb. 15 that it was hacked. The social media site claims that hackers recently infiltrated some of its employee’s laptops.

Facebook claims that none of its users’ information was compromised during the cyber attack and explains in a blog post that the attack occurred after a few employees visited a website last month that infected their machines with malware.

“As soon as we discovered the presence of the malware, we remediated all infected machines, informed law enforcement, and began a significant investigation that continues to this day,” Facebook wrote.

Facebook has not yet commented on the origin of the attack, but a security expert at another company reportedly has knowledge of the Facebook attack and says the attack appears to have originated in China.

Facebook noted in its blog post that it was not alone in the attack, and that “others were attacked and infiltrated recently as well,” although it did not specify who.
