Facebook's oldest user is Edythe Kirchmaier. Gone are the days Facebook users were just teenagers looking to meet co-eds. According to a report from Wednesday (Feb. 6), Kirchmaier is 105 years old and is also known as the oldest licensed driver in California Adding to her list of accolades, Kirchmaier is the oldest living former student of the University of Chicago.
It seems that she isn't just laying claims to age either, as she has more than 20,000 Facebook friends already. Her new popularity could certainly help to boost that number, especially with the buzz surrounding her title as the oldest user of the site.
This really shows how the original intent of Facebook has shifted and how it no longer matters how young someone has to be to enjoy what the site has to offer. Speaking about her time on the site, Kirchmaier stated, "I've been contacted by such wonderful people and received such nice messages and pictures from people all over the world. I'm so humbled by all the interest in me."
Having more than 20,000 Facebook friends after being on the site for only a month is something to be proud of and it certainly breaks the stereotype of the older generations not understanding how technology works. Now that Edythe Kirchmaier has been dubbed the oldest Facebook user, it will be interesting to see if someone older hears this news and tries to take the throne.
