There are many reports like this one from CTV that supposes Facebook is going to launch a "robust" search engine into their social media platform but in my opinion this is not the big secret Facebook will be revealing today.
In just about a few hours 1:00pm EST, Facebook will be throwing an event at their headquarters in Menlo Park, California where they'll be announcing what seems to be a special project they've been working on behind the scenes.
Some are saying, despite Zuckerberg's claim that developing a mobile devise is not the right strategy for Facebook, people still believe today they will be unveiling a smart phone. I also don't believe this will be today's big release.
Why? I don't believe many people will be willing to give up their beloved smart phones for a Facebook driven device. I just don't see it happening.
And when it comes to unveiling a search engine, I don't believe they would hold a public event inviting journalists and bloggers to attend. I believe it would happen behind the scenes as an update to their platform and almost nothing more Of course that would be big news but today's event seems more sinister in my opinion.
My belief is that today they'll be releasing the new Facebook - a whole new platform that contends with the likes of Googe+ so much so that it puts Google+ into a closet it can't get out from.
I could be wrong and maybe this is wishful thinking on my part, but we'll have to see.
