Facebook phone will finally be revealed next week.
For years now Facebook has been hinting that its own phone was on the horizon, and this week it finally invited press to a media event to unveil its new baby on April 4th. According to TechCrunch and Digital Trends Daily the Facebook phone will be an HTC phone with an Android operating system modified to ensure that Facebook and its apps are primary to use of the phone. In fact, the social media platform will basically overrun the operating system and Facebook will feel like it's running the phone.
Most sources agree that the Facebook phone will look a lot like the iPhone and feature the most popular apps for Facebook heavily. This means that apps like Messenger and Instagram should be fully optimized for the phone and a central part of the experience. According to Digital Trends Daily the Facebook phone will likely feature a 1.5Gz processor, 1GB of ram, and 16GB of storage.
Naturally with the ongoing criticisms of Facebook, privacy and the Zuckerberg penchant for gathering personal information, it shouldn't go unnoticed that the new Facebook phone will present even better opportunities for privacy piercing and data mining from users. It's no secret that who you text and call most often are top indicators of who your closest friends are. This in turn could refine your news feed and determine which faces Facebook chooses to use in ads targeted for you. The phone will also allow Facebook your complete calendar and contacts—more information than it has ever had. What privacy issues might arise as a result remain to be seen.
