Facebook phone?

If you were watching local news last night in Detroit you saw that the Facebook phone rumors may finally need to be taken seriously. There has been hushed, and not so hushed, buzz around the possibility of a smartphone from the social media giant for some years now. That being said, it's been one of those things that was easy to ignore and forget. You know, out of sight, out of mind. In light of all of the mobile app developments that Facebook has pushed out, even within the last year, it is not hard to imagine a Facebook phone.

Think about it; their mobile apps now have VoIP calling, dedicated messaging apps that many already use as a primary texting service, and amped up photo management. It would seem that they have been preparing to have all of the things that most social smartphone users need the most.

It will certainly be interesting to see what Zuckerberg and the crew over at HTC do with the Android platform, which is the alleged operating system of choice, naturally.

What are some other services that you think Facebook would have to master before having a dedicated phone? Do you think their data intensive services would end the need for calling and texting plans?
